Your Questions, Answered
-
We offer a complimentary discovery call to learn about your project, answer basic questions, and assess whether we may be a good fit for your needs. If you choose to move forward, a fixed-fee on-site consultation is generally required to develop a full proposal for your project.
-
Our initial call is a screening and discovery session designed for mutual assessment and to determine if your project is a good fit for our firm's services, timeline, and minimum investment levels. To make the most of this brief call, please prepare three essential pieces of information:
Project Scope and Goals: Be prepared to clearly articulate the specific rooms you wish to renovate or furnish and a brief summary of any functional problems you are hoping to solve.
Preliminary Budget: Have a clear, realistic preliminary budget in mind for the total project (including construction, furnishings, and design fees). This is crucial for assessing fit, as we will not proceed without budget alignment.
Timeline: Know your desired start and completion dates so we can check against our current project calendar. Let us know if you already have any firm project timeline commitments.
This preparation allows us to quickly assess alignment and determine the next steps, which typically involves scheduling an on-site design consultation.

Currently we provide full-service interior design for project locations in Maryland, DC, and Virginia. We provide virtual/remote design services to other locations on a case-by-case basis.

We offer virtual initial consultations, and consider virtual projects on a case-by-case basis. As a full-service firm, our primary focus is on comprehensive local projects (DMV area) that include essential in-person site visits and hands-on management. Projects outside the DMV area are evaluated on a selective basis. Please contact us to describe your project; we'll let you know if a virtual arrangement is possible.

Our design process begins with the big picture before narrowing in on the fine details and precise specifications. We start with inspiration sharing and style exploration to gain a clear understanding of your lifestyle and aesthetic. Once the overall design direction is established, we develop concept boards and source the necessary samples to bring the shared vision to life.
Throughout the process, our project management software allows you to review selections, provide feedback, and ask questions as the design evolves. We collaborate closely with skilled artisans and trusted trade professionals, and for many projects we incorporate 3D modeling to help you visualize the space before moving into implementation.

We believe exceptional interior design is not about imposing a signature look, but about thoughtfully interpreting and refining yours. While our work often reflects a timeless, layered aesthetic, balancing classic elegance with modern livability, our approach is always tailored to the individual. By blending traditional and contemporary elements, we create spaces that feel both refined and welcoming.
Our expertise spans a range of aesthetics, including traditional, transitional, maximalist, coastal, and English cottage styles. Architectural context plays a vital role in shaping each project, guiding design decisions that feel intentional and cohesive. The result is a highly personalized interior that authentically reflects your vision and feels uniquely suited to the way you live.

Yes, we are happy to try and incorporate your existing furniture. Please keep in mind that designing around existing pieces, especially those that are unique or inconsistent with your overall design direction, can result in higher design fees due to added complexity.

For all furnishings and accessories specified by our firm, procurement is exclusively handled by us. This is a mandatory part of our full-service offering, and it is designed to protect your project timeline and budget.
When you purchase through us, we manage Product Administration, which covers all necessary logistical and administrative work after the purchase:
Order Management: Tracking and coordinating all orders.
Quality Control: Handling damage claims and exchanges promptly.
Warehousing & Delivery: Coordinating off-site storage (if needed) and scheduling final delivery and installation.

The design process duration varies wildly, from a few weeks for a single room to over a year for a new home, depending on project size, complexity, client decisions, and builder/contractor timelines. You can anticipate at least 4-6 weeks for simple interior updates, 3-12 months for home renovations, and 6-18+ months for new home builds, with each stage involving client feedback and revisions.
-
We require advance payment for our services and products and do not provide direct financing for design projects.
We recommend ensuring you have secure funds available prior to commencing the design process. While personal savings is the most straightforward option, if you require additional financing, here are several common options available through third-party lenders that you may wish to explore:
Cash-out Refinance: You replace your current mortgage with a new, larger loan and receive the difference in cash. This is a good option if you have built significant home equity and have excellent credit.
Home Equity Loan: This provides a one-time, lump-sum loan based on your home's equity. These often have competitive, fixed interest rates and predictable monthly payments.
Home Equity Line of Credit (HELOC): This functions as a revolving credit line (like a credit card) using your home's equity as collateral. You can draw on funds as needed and only pay interest on the amount used, but be aware that the interest rate may be variable.
Disclaimer: We do not provide financial services or advice. Please consult with a qualified financial advisor, mortgage broker, or lender to thoroughly evaluate these and other financing options for your specific situation.

While your builder or contractor focuses on the execution—managing the trades, construction timeline, and structural integrity—our Interior Design firm manages the planning, detailed specification, and aesthetic vision. We are your project advocate, responsible for creating technical drawings (e.g., floor plans, elevations, custom millwork) that the contractor requires to accurately quote and build the project. We also specify and manage the procurement of finishes, fixtures, and furnishings.
Our involvement upfront can reduce expensive errors and delays because we deliver a comprehensive plan before implementation. In short: Your contractor builds the structure; your designer plans the home to ensure it functions smoothly, looks beautiful, and aligns with your vision.

Yes, absolutely. We prioritize the health and sustainability of your home environment and are able to specify and source materials with low VOCs (Volatile Organic Compounds), recycled content, and responsible certifications. That being said, selecting these specialized materials often requires significant additional research, verification, and procurement time to ensure they meet both our design standards and your project's technical requirements. This increased complexity and research time may contribute to a slightly higher design fee or material cost compared to conventional options.
